Venezuela: The national constituent assembly, which has been convened by the Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) government led by President Nicolás Maduro, has approved the designation of finance minister Ramón Lobo as the new president of Venezuela’s central bank (BCV). The move is in line with a request from President Maduro. Lobo takes over from Ricardo Sanguino who was appointed in January 2017. In December 2015, just before the PSUV yielded control of the national assembly to the main opposition coalition, Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD), it amended a legal provision requiring the legislature to confirm the appointment of a BCV president.
