Costa Rica: The finance ministry has reported that in recent days the customs authorities have seized over seven tonnes of goods that were about to enter the country irregularly, without paying the relevant taxes and without having mandatory sanitary permits. According to an official statement, among the goods seized were four tonnes of sandbags that were declared as being bags of detergent from China. The authorities have also seized half a tonne of children’s clothes and 403kg of undeclared fabrics and other parcels that had been bought online, with the customs directorate reminding citizens that all goods bought online must be declared or they are liable to be seized and purchasers issued with fines.
