Uruguay: The national statistics institute (INE) has reported that the national unemployment rate stood at 7.6% in September. The new unemployment figure is two-tenths of a percentage points lower than in August and eight-tenths of a percentage point lower than in September 2016. This fall in the unemployment is positive given that the jobless rate had been increasing at the start of the year, reaching a ten-year peak of 9% in March. But since then there has been a consistent fall in the unemployment rate every month, with the exception of August, pointing to a recovery of the labour market.
