In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s national flag carrier airline, Aeroméxico, has announced that it has had to cancel 59 national and international flights due a strike called by some of its pilots. The strike was called by some members of the Asociación Sindical de Pilotos Aviadores de México (Aspa) umbrella pilots’ union over the dismissal of an Aeroméxico pilot that they considered to be unfair. The industrial action has so far affected some 10,000 passengers and produced chaos at Mexico City’s international airport (AICM). This has prompted Mexico’s national civil aviation authority to call on Aeroméxico to immediately rescheduled the cancelled flights and offer compensation to any passengers affected in line with regulations in this regard introduced earlier this month, or face sanctions.
