Bolivia: Transport workers and local taxi drivers in Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, have staged a 24-hour strike against the planned purchase of municipal buses which they claim will damage their business. Unions such as Los Choferes Federados de La Paz 1º de Mayo are calling for La Paz mayor Luis Revilla, of the leftist opposition Soberanía y Libertad (Sol.bo) party, to cancel the purchase of 72 buses to expand the Pumakatari service. Revilla said yesterday (7 February) that he would not back down over their demands.
