Paraguay: During a recent trip to Doha, Paraguay's industry & trade minister Gustavo Leite met Qatari minister for economy & commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani. The two parties signed a series of bilateral trade agreements including one to avoid double taxation and another to prevent tax evasion. Qatar is an important economic partner for Paraguay as a major importer of petrol derivatives and fertiliser. Last year, the volume of trade exchange between the two countries was QR5.92m (US$1.63m) according to Qatari daily the
Gulf Times. Leite’s trip to the Middle East is part of an initiative by President Horacio Cartes to position Paraguay as a leading producer of processed foods.
