Ecuador: An Ecuadorean military patrol has repelled an attack on the northern border, near the El Pan community, in San Lorenzo, a canton in Ecuador’s coastal border province of Esmeraldas. According to a statement released by the armed forces (FFAA), one person was detained and delivered to the relevant authorities for investigation in relation to the attack. The military operation has been in place on the northern border since 27 January for protective measures, after President Lenín Moreno declared a state of emergency, in response to a car bomb in San Lorenzo that was deemed a terrorist attack against Ecuador. Via his official Twitter account, Defence Minister Patricio Zambrano sent “congratulations to our soldiers that safeguard the northern border”.
