*Brazil’s national statistics agency (Ibge) has reported the national unemployment rates was 12.2% in the period from November 2017 to January 2018. This figure exceeds local economic forecasts and means 12.7m Brazilians are out of work. However, a representative from the Ibge said the labour market should show an improvement again when the February results are published following the carnival celebrations. “Carnival creates a lot of business and tourism across multiple states. Let us see if that is enough to reduce unemployment rates”, the Ibge representative said.
