COLOMBIA:US-Colombia FTA gets green light

After almost five years on the backburner, the 2006 US-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has been given a timeframe for ratification by the US Congress. Following a meeting with his US counterpart, Barack Obama, on 7 April, Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos announced that the FTA will be sent to the US congress for informal review on 22 April. Formal discussion of the treaty, aimed at its final ratification, will begin on 15 June and must conclude within 90 days.
