Venezuela: Fatih Birol, the executive director of the International Energy Agency (AIE), has described the fall in Venezuela’s oil production as one of the worst in history. Birol made his remarks at an 11 April press conference during the 16
th International Energy Forum in New Delhi, India, which has brought together oil executives and energy sector leaders from 92 different countries. Birol said that the big worry is the “halving of Venezuelan oil production since [the late] former president Hugo Chávez [1999-2013] took office in 1999”.
