The only person who has not declared herself a candidate in the 23
October Argentine presidential election is the only one who has a strong chance
of winning that contest outright without the need for a second round run-off on
20 November. President Cristina Fernández's expected re-election bid has a
privilege that only a handful of regional, or global, leaders can afford: a
silent strategy. For while Fernández continues to make elliptical references to
her possible candidacy (or lack of one), her main opposition rivals are in full
'pre-campaign' campaign mode - the official campaign does not start until 15
July- throwing punches in all directions, many of which have successfully landed
on other members of the opposition, eliminating them before Fernández even
