Mexico: Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has announced the creation of a new cybersecurity unit. The announcement follows the 27-30 April cyberattack on Banxico’s electronic payment transfer system, Sistema de Pagos Electrónico (Spei), in which at least M$300m (US$15.2m) where stolen by hackers from some of Mexico’s leading private banks. The changes to Banxico’s defence systems are intended to increase protection of financial electronic data, according to the statement signed by Banxico’s governor, Alejandro Díaz de León Carrillo.
