* Austrian cellulose producer Lenzing and its Brazilian partner, Duratex, have announced plans to build a new US$1bn soluble cellulose plant in Brazil’s eastern state of Minas Gerais. According to a joint statement, Lenzing will have a majority 51% stake in the venture, with Duratex having the minority stake. Duratex, which specialises in producing wooden panels for the construction sector, has said that the venture will help it to diversify its business by integrating its forest plantations with the new cellulose plant.
