* Brazil’s national automobile producers association (Anfavea) has released new figures showing that the production of vehicles in the country has had its best August results in four years. Production reached 291,400 vehicles in August, an 11.7% year-on-year increase, and an 18.6% increase on production in July. Sales of vehicles nationally also rose, with a 14.8% increase compared to August last year. Anfavea president, Antonio Megale, said that this was a “positive surprise” considering the current economic scenario in the country, which is grappling with a weakening Real and uncertainty over the upcoming 7 October general election. However, Brazil’s vehicle exports fell by 16.6% compared to August last year, largely affected by a fall in shipments to Argentina as result of the currency crisis affecting that country.
