In brief: El Salvador

According to the most recent CID Gallup poll published in the El Salvador media, 45% of respondents would vote for Nayib Bukele who is running for the opposition Gran Alianza de la Unidad Nacional (Gana) party in the February 2019 presidential election. Bukele, who in May was on 41% of voting intentions, is a former mayor for Nuevo Cuscatlán (2012-2015) and San Salvador (2015-2018), previously elected on the ticket of the ruling left-wing Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) party, although he broke with the party last year. The poll also shows Carlos Calleja, a businessman running for the main right-wing opposition Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena) party, second, on 20% (down from 21% in May), followed by Hugo Martínez (FMLN), a former foreign minister (2009-2018) on 7% (up from 5% in May), while 27% said they did not know for whom they would vote (down from 30% in May).
