Argentina’s most high-profile moderates in the main opposition Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronists) held a meeting last week to create an electoral alliance ahead of presidential elections in October next year. The main thrust of the meeting was to forge a broad-based alternative to the centre-right Cambiemos government led by President Mauricio Macri but without the presence of the Kirchnerista faction of the PJ under former president Cristina Fernández (2007-2015).
