The first round of what are possibly the most controversial and unpredictable Brazilian presidential elections in the last three decades will be held on 7 October. Most analysts believe no candidate will get more than 50% of the vote, therefore triggering a second-round run-off ballot that will be held on 28 October. The latest polls suggest the two main contenders will be Jair Bolsonaro (an extreme right winger representing the Partido Social Liberal – PSL) and Fernando Haddad of the left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores – PT).
