In brief: Brazil

* Brazilian power distribution company Elektro, part of the Neoenergia group (which is owned by Spanish firm Iberdrola), and Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia have partnered to deliver a pioneering smart grid project in parts of São Paulo state, in and around the city of Atibaia. Nokia and Elektro will deploy a private LTE network (wireless 4G), the first of its kind in South America, with the aim of increasing the efficiency and reliability of the electrical grid in Atibaia. According to Nokia, the project will increase grid reliability by up to 50% and cut commercial losses by up to 80% in the 75,000 homes and businesses it will serve.
