A balance of Santos’ achievements in the education sector

Now that former president Juan Manuel Santos’ two-term government (2010-2018) in Colombia is over, attention can turn to analysing his achievements while in office. Santos’s most famous legacy, of course, will be the peace negotiations and agreement with the guerrilla Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and much has been written on this topic. Less has been written about other pillars of his policy, such as education which, along with peace, social equity, and prosperity, featured among his key campaign slogans during his 2014 re-election campaign.
