In brief: Uruguay

* Uruguay’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nelson Chabén, has announced the signing of a bilateral investment promotion and protection agreement between Uruguay and the UAE. The signing of the agreement comes after Uruguay opened its embassy in Abu Dabi four years ago and Chabén said that it should help to increase bilateral exports and investments. According to Chabén, Uruguay exported US$10m-worth of products to the UAE last year, but he hopes that this figure could double in the next few years. The ambassador also noted that the UAE has recently invested US$30m in a new rice processing plant and that the new agreement should pave the way for more such investment in Uruguay.
