* Brazilian economists speaking to national daily
O Estado de São Paulo say that the country’s GDP could grow by more than 3% in 2019, if President-elect Jair Bolsonaro successfully pushes forward with the economic reforms he has promised, notably a pension reform and the sell-off of state-owned companies. Most economists agree that a scenario with a moderate 2%-2.5% GDP growth is more likely however, citing governability risks and Bolsonaro’s capacity to harness support in congress and from civil society as the main challenges. These projections are in line with the central bank’s (BCB) current forecast of 2.5% growth for 2019, up from a projected 1.36% growth for this year.
