President Danilo Medina has promulgated the Dominican Republic’s (DR) first ever political parties’ law (ley 33-18) after 15 years of debate. Long a demand of civil-society groups and the private sector, the law for the first time regulates the complete process surrounding the formation, structuring, and procedures relating to political groups, movements, and parties.
