* El Salvador’s President Salvador Sánchez Cerén has revealed that China has authorised a US$150m donation over a three-year period for projects in the sectors of health, education, technology, water supply, and disaster prevention & mitigation. The announcement follows President Sánchez Cerén’s trip to China which took place from 1-5 November – his first visit since the two countries established diplomatic ties in August 2018. Sánchez Cerén also said that China had agreed to 13 joint projects, without providing details. President Sánchez Cerén has previously indicated agreements with China for the provision of 3,000 tonnes (t) of rice for the population affected by droughts and floods, a programme of scholarships for higher education, and various agreements signed between the two central banks which would permit El Salvador to access loans.
