Colombia: On 13-17 November the newly appointed US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier travelled to Colombia to meet with President Iván Duque and other senior Colombian government officials as well as Colombian business leaders and civil society representatives. While in Colombia, Assistant Secretary Breier was due to participate in the official arrival ceremony of the hospital ship USNS Comfort in Turbo, Antioquia department, which is on an 11-week medical support mission to Central and South America as part of the US Southern Command’s Enduring Promise initiative. Breier was also due to visit the city of Cúcuta, the capital of Norte de Santander department, which lies on Colombia’s border with Venezuela, where she will meet local and international NGO leaders and volunteers from US-supported programmes that provide humanitarian aid to Venezuelan refugees and migrants that have crossed into Colombia; and while in Antioquia Breier was also due to discuss bilateral efforts to address narcotics production and trafficking.
