URUGUAY |
Stagnating growth. Uruguay’s GDP grew by 2.1% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2018, according to a report released by the central bank (BCU) last week. Growth in the third quarter was driven by a positive performance in most economic sectors led by the agricultural sector (6.4%) and the manufacturing sector (4.6%). However, there was a fall in activity in the key construction (-0.7%) and retail, restaurants and hotels (-0.9%) sectors. Similarly, there was a 10.4% decline in the level of goods and services exported by Uruguay in the third quarter compared to the same period last year.
