In brief: Bolivia

* Óscar Barriga, the president of Bolivia’s state-run oil company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), has announced that the contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas with Brazil will be extended up until 2023, providing the Bolivian state with a monthly income of some US$150m. The current contract, which runs out this year, is due to be renegotiated next year. Natural gas accounts for 96% of Bolivia’s exports to Brazil, Bolivia’s main export market (accounting for 19% of the country’s exports which were worth a total of US$8.44bn in the first 11 months of 2018, on figures from private sector lobby IBCE).
