* More than 140 freight trains are stranded in the state of Michoacán due to blockades by the  Coordinadora Nacional de Trabjadores de la Educación (CNTE) teachers' union, which is demanding backdated salaries. According to Francisco Cervantes, the president of the confederation of Mexican industrial chambers (Concamin), the blockade is producing significant economic losses and has already cost the Mexican economy over M$7.5bn (US$394m). Cervantes added that although the economic impact had originally been limited to the interior of Michoacán state it has now spread to the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, where more than 10,000 containers are stranded.
