* The Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) has released the latest figures for its consumer confidence index (ICC) which show that consumer confidence levels in Brazil have surged, reaching their highest level since February 2014. The ICC reached 96.6 points for January 2019, 3.6 points higher than in December 2018, and almost 8 points more than last January.
Vivian Seda Bittencourt, coordinator of the consumer survey, puts this down to improved prospects for the economy, employment, and inflation and the recovery of families’ finances.
Bittencourt says the scenario is expected to remain favourable and that the ICC could surpass 100 points in the first half of the year.
