US provides strong support for Venezuela’s Guaidó

Argentina: On 18 January, Argentina’s development bank Banco de Inversión y Comercio Exterior (BICE) issued a press release noting that the US Treasury Department had agreed to support the Argentine government in its ongoing infrastructure projects. The arrangement was finalised in an agreement signed by US Treasury’s Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) and BICE’s Infrastructure Division during a meeting in Washington chaired by Guillermo Dietrich, Argentina’s transport minister. The OTA is to assist in the analysis, execution, control and monitoring of schemes such as public-private partnership projects. It will also provide on-the-ground support in the form of a consultant dispatched to BICE offices. The agreement was announced after a delegation of Argentine civil servants travelled to the US to source funding for the government’s public-private partnership highway projects. In an interview with Bloomberg, Dietrich remarked that there had been a shift in investor sentiment, reporting that “the talks focus on the elections and the continuation of our plan. We’re amazed by the good vibes we’re getting from multi-laterals, banks and institutions.” The Argentine delegation also held meetings with the World Bank, the Inter-American Bank of Development, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation during its time in Washington.
