Evo Morales has inaugurated the Mutún iron ore mine and steelworks project which will be managed by the Chinese company Sinosteel. Located in Puerto Suárez municipality, Santa Cruz department, the initiative has an investment of over US$546m through a direct loan granted by the Export-Import Bank of China (Eximbank). According to official sources, the iron ore plan, which will be built in five phases over 42 months, will have the initial capacity to produce 194,000 tonnes(t) of corrugated and flat iron and supply over 50% of the domestic market.
