In brief: Argentina

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released new figures which show inflation reached 49.3% in January 2019 year-on-year, surpassing the already high 47.6% from January 2017 to January 2018. Monthly inflation for January 2019 was 2.9%, exceeding the 2.6% from November to December 2018, but still far from the 6.5% recorded in September of the same year. The monthly inflation for January also went beyond the 2.5% predicted by Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) in its survey of market expectations (REM) published in January 2019.
