In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has announced on Twitter details for the planned tender for the concession to operate part of the North-South railway line, the ‘backbone’ of Brazil’s railway network that has been under construction for over 30 years. The 30-year concession to operate a 1,537 km-stretch of the railway line between Estrela D’Oeste in São Paulo state and Porto Nacional in Tocantins state will be up for auction for a minimum R$1.35bn (US$358m) and require investment of R$2.8bn (US$742m). The aim is for the operational capacity of that part of the line to reach 22.73m tonnes by the end of the concession period, Bolsonaro said. The tender is due to take place on 28 March and forms part of the Bolsonaro government’s goals for its first 100 days in office.
