* Mexico’s tourism minister,
Miguel Torruco Marqués, has said that the government led by President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador is forecasting investment of US$4.865bn in various projects for the tourism sector this year, to create 23,730 direct jobs. He also said that the government was expecting 43.3m international tourists to visit the country in 2019, 4.7% up on 2018. Meanwhile the government is forecasting that spending by international tourists will reach US$23.6bn this year, up 10.6% on 2018. An official press release cites figures from the national statistics institute (Inegi) which showed that in January 2019 alone, spending by international tourists was US$2.289bn, up 17.7%.
