Suriname: Border uncertainties

Most people following the oil discoveries off the north-east shoulder of South America are aware of the territorial dispute between Guyana and Venezuela, most recently in the news in December when a Venezuelan naval vessel intercepted a survey ship operating in Guyanese waters. Less well-known are the border disputes between Suriname and its neighbours to the east (French Guiana) and the west (Guyana).
