* Brazil’s national statistics institute (IBGE) has released the latest figures for the national consumer price index (IPCA) which show that monthly inflation for March 2019 reached 0.75%, up from 0.43% in February. This is the highest rate recorded for the third month of the year since March 2015 (1.32%). This brings the accumulated inflation to 1.51% in the first three months of 2019, the highest rate for this period since 2016 (2.62%). The cumulative inflation rate for the 12 months to March 2019 stands at 4.58%, up from 3.89% in the previous 12 months. Higher inflation recorded for March was influenced by the food & beverage and transport sectors, which registered a monthly inflation rate of 1.37% and 1.44%, respectively.
