* Ecuador’s energy ministry has announced that it will cancel a decree approved by the electricity regulation and control agency (Arconel) which had increased electricity tariffs for the first time in order to pay for street lighting for residential, commercial, industrial, social and official sectors. The government led by President Lenín Moreno backtracked after widespread outrage on social media sites regarding the proposed new tariffs.
