* The International Labour Organization (ILO) has announced a US$2m investment for programmes promoting the social integration and inclusion into the labour market of displaced Venezuelan refugees. Figures from the United Nations (UN) show that, as of March this year, 3.7m Venezuelans have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the country’s deepening social, economic, political, and human rights crisis. The ILO-led interventions will be carried out in Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador. The programmes will focus on compiling data on Venezuelan migrants in any given area to understand their skillset and facilitate their insertion into the local labour market, supporting new businesses created by migrants, campaigning to promote fair and equal treatment of migrant workers (as well as ensuring local workers aren’t disadvantaged), and analysing value chains to determine the potential for new positions to be created.
