Mexico: Armed groups in border area on the increase
The Mexico-US border is increasingly becoming awash with armed individuals. The deployment of US and Mexican military to the border to reinforce security and stop the thousands of Central American migrants that have been travelling through Mexico trying to reach the US has increased the presence of armed law enforcement agents on the border. Meanwhile, armed US vigilante groups have also increased their activities on the border also also try to stop illegal migrants from crossing over. But all of this also appears to have led to the criminal gangs operating in the further arming themselves. With so many armed actors operating in the border, there are fears that there could be a significant increase in violence.
