The issue of informality in labour markets is one that receives a lot of attention, but the exact definition of the term is not universally agreed upon. However, informality commonly refers to undeclared labour, tax evasion, and unregulated or unlicensed activities. In less developed countries, these activities are likely performed for survival on a small scale, according to the OECD.
