* Spanish company Globalia, owner of low-cost long-haul airline Air Europa, has announced its intention of opening an airline in Brazil. Brazil’s Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas announced this on Twitter, noting that Air Europa would be the first company to make the most of a decree signed by former president Michel Temer (2016-2019) which opens up Brazil-based airline companies to foreign capital. Gomes de Freitas highlighted the opportunity that this would represent in terms of job creation, competitivity, and investment. Air Europa has reportedly already filed a request to operate flights in Brazil with the São Paulo state business council (Jucesp). However, the decree (MP 863) which permits Globalia to open an airline in Brazil must still be approved by Brazil's federal congress to retain its validity, and the vote must take place by tomorrow (22 May) or the decree expires.
