* Paraguay’s President Mario Abdo Benítez has partially vetoed a bill on doctors’ pensions citing its lack of financial sustainability. The original bill stated that doctors could retire at 55, after 25 years of contributions to the state pension system, and receive 90% of their salary, or that they could retire at 60 after 30 years of contributions and receive 100% of their salary. Instead, Finance Minister Benigno López proposed that doctors retire at 60 after 30 years of contributions and receive 75% of their salary. López also announced that the president plans to present reforms to the national pension system at the end of the year. In response, the Sindicato Nacional de Médicos (Sinamed) doctors’ union has announced plans to go on strike for five days from 3 June.
