MEXICO: New border 'offensive' met with escalation of violence

With one eye on the US senators debating immigration and border security legislation and another on the domestic electorate which will be voting in July, the Fox administration is making an effort to show that it is determined to stamp out violence along the border with the US. Without actually conceding that its México Seguro campaign has failed, it has launched a new drive against the warring drug gangs along the northern border, starting with Nuevo Laredo, the city on which so much US attention has focused.
