* The Central American bank for economic integration (BCIE) and Costa Rica’s railway institute (Incofer) have awarded a US$680,000 contract to a Spanish-Mexican consortium AudingIntraesa-Audingmex to explore the technical, economic, social, and environmental feasibility of the Limón electric freight train project (TELCA). This involves overhauling existing stretches of track between Limón city (capital of the eponymous province) and Río Frío (Puntarenas region) (109 km), and Limón and Valle de la Estrella (Limón province) (60 km) as well as the possibility of constructing a new track between Río Frío and Bajos de Chilamate (Heredia) (approximately 30 km).
