Carla Alvanés, a lawyer for Alba Petróleos de El Salvador, a subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa), has called an investigation into the company
“political persecution”. On 31 May, Alba Petróleos, along with 26 associated companies, had its offices raided as part of an investigation into accusations that it formed part of a network of companies that engaged in money laundering between 2007 and 2018 through the counterfeit sale of oil, the systematic purchase of assets, illegal mining, and false infrastructure projects.
