ECUADOR | El Mirador mine operations. On 18 July, production began at the El Mirador copper mining project in the Tundayme area of Ecuador’s southern province of Zamora-Chinchipe. The open-pit mine, owned by the Chinese-Ecuadorean company Ecuacorriente, is projected to process, during an initial six-month phase, 10,000 tonnes (t) of ore a day, producing 400t of copper concentrate. After the first six months, the mine will increase production, processing 60,000t of ore a day to produce 1,200t of copper concentrate.
