In 2013, the United Nations (UN) designated 30 July as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, with the aim of raising awareness of the situation of the victims of human trafficking, and of the promotion and protection of their rights. This year, the UN Office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC) is using the World Day to highlight the importance of government action in fighting human trafficking and protecting its victims.
