In brief: Brazil avoids technical recession

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released figures for second-quarter growth, which show that GDP grew a quarterly 0.4% from April-June. Year-on-year growth for Q2 stands at 1.0%. Despite growth remaining sluggish, this result has been celebrated, as there were concerns that GDP would contract in Q2 which would have pushed Brazil into technical recession.
