In brief: Bolivia expects drop in mining royalties in second half

* Jhonny Maldonado, executive director of Bolivia's national registry service for minerals and metals trade (Senarecom), announced that in the first half of 2019 Bolivia received B$587.9m (US$85m) in mining royalties. However, Maldonado said that he expects a fall in mining royalties in the second half of the year due to a 20-day strike over salary and labour demands last month by miners over at the San Cristóbal silver, lead, and zinc mine which is operated by Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation. Located in Potosí department, the mine is one of the country’s biggest.
