In brief: Ecuador to import Brazilian cattle

* Brazil’s agriculture ministry (Mapa) and foreign ministry (MRE) have announced the conclusion of talks with Ecuador, ongoing since 2014, with Ecuador’s agreement to an international zoosanitary export certificate which allows Brazil to export live bovine animals. The Mapa notes that Brazil exported US$535m worth of live cattle worldwide in 2018, and US$6.5bn worth of beef. “The export of live animals diversifies the Brazilian export agenda and offers an alternative to the country’s rural producers”, the Mapa and MRE note in a joint statement.
