President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been spared a damaging domestic political clash to go with his government’s economic difficulties and recurrent diplomatic crises with the US. This after Mexico’s federal lower chamber of congress opted to elect Laura Rojas Hernández, a member of the right-wing opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), as its president on 5 September.
